How to convert your Malaysia driving license to Singapore driving Licence (2016)

For Malaysian who wants to convert driving license to Singapore driving Licence .

Yeah. As a Malaysian who works or lives in Singapore. You have a privilege to convert your Malaysia driving license to Singapore's without taking the expensive driving course and provision driving period.

The goal of this article is to help you obtain the Singapore driving license in minimum travel to variety of location. The fxxking facility is not located at heart of the city but far from woodland. I do not need to tell you how I'm pissed off with the complicated process that fxxking Place has set up and they are not revealing all information in their website so you'll ends up travel more than you should.

Without further a do, lets do it.

Pre-knowledge

  • You'll need to hold your Malaysia driving license more than 1 year before you first enter Singapore to work or live
  • You are Malaysian citizen and not Singapore PR
  • Your Malaysia driving license should have more than 6 months validity
  • If your first Singapore Entry date is in your old passport, bring it along

The location

The nearest bus stop is called "Woodlands Auto Hub". You can take bus no 856 from either woodland or Marsiling and walk for 2 minutes. Google map will suggest you to take 170 which is a faster route if you don't mind to walk under the sun or rain without any shade for 15 minutes.

The process

You can complete the whole process with minimum of 3 travels. The fxxking place will not reveal clear information to you so you'll ends up travel more than you should.

Step 1 - Book for the BTT (Basic Theory Test)
You'll need go to this location and book the Basic Theory Test in person. You can not take the BTT on the day so you'll need a do a reservation. They only accept NETS payment so please don't forget to bring your bank card. The booking fee is SGD 12.5

For your smooth process in step three. Choose the BTT test time before 3pm. Book the morning session if possible, if you book late afternoon, you're high probably ends up additional travel.

Step 2 - Obtain the extract driving license record

While waiting you Basic Theory Test, you should go to Malaysia JPJ to get this document called EDLR or extract driving license record in full name. I would strongly suggest Johor JPJ because they know the process better. Johor JPJ is here, standard Taxi fare from custom to JPJ is RM 24.9 as of 2016.

Note: EDLRr only valid for 6 months. plan your visit

At Johor JPJ, go up stair, Turn Right to license counter, get the form and fill it up. Wait for your turn and tell them you need EDLR for license conversion. You'll need these documents

1) Photocopy and original Malaysia IC
2) Photocopy and original Malaysia driving license
3) Photocopy and original Singapore work permit

The fee for EDLR is RM 10. Before leaving JPJ, check your EDLR and ensure there are official chop and sign and chop of B2 and D class obtained date seperally. If you are doing EDLR at other JPJ and they don't have the chop, hand writing is acceptable too.

Step 3 - Take and pass the BTT and apply for conversion

Here is the last travel. Take the BTT On your booking date and pass it. Passing score is 90% of 50 questions.

Once you passed your test. Go to level one counter and take a queue. You'll need to present these documents for processing.

1) Driving license from JPJ with official stamp (B2, D date seperate)
2) Passport n photocopy with the date you enter Singapore
3) Malaysia IC and photocopy
4) Malaysia driving license with photocopy
5) employment pass with photocopy
6) Your photo (Passport size, white background)

Once you submitted the document, watch the video at level 4. (the latest video is 4:30pm, you'll need to come again if you missed it). See? they hide the schedule at their desk.

Go back to level one and pay SGD 50 for 5 years license. Again, they only accept NETS.

The license will be mailed to you in few days.

NOTE: BTT has no expire date just for your information. I applied for conversion after 6 months I passed my BTT.

Finally

Congratulation you've completed the process with minimal travel. Fxxk the damn facility that try to hide all information to you and waste all your precious time.

Hope you like this and please share it with you Friend.

  1. Yes really fxxked up, I already called them and asked what document they need before going, but they DID NOT give the correct information Until I reached there and waited for 30 minutes, they told me, lack of this and that, somemore with an impolite tone as if it's my fault. The documents that they need are not stated in their website, and they did not even mentioned to me in the previous phone call. STUPID staff STUPID attitude. FXXK!

  9. Your guides are really helpful!!
    Just settled everything today.

Maybe you might want to share some info from today.

    ** Malaysia part **
    - From JB Sentral to the JPJ, went there by GRAB, RM19 and RM11 for return.

    - At the JPJ, there are some people will come to you and tell you that by converting the license, your current Malaysia Driving License will be blacklisted (the agreement between Msia & SG), so they will tell you they have Lobang to avoid it. But it is not recommended cuz you can just renew your msia license to the max (5 years). And according to the staff, even with SG license, as long as you have the employment pass you still can drive in Malaysia.

    ** S'pore part **
Mine was Bukit Batok Driving Centre so it might be different.
    - Make sure to photocopy your new Msia license (if you renew). They will not offer you the photocopy services even though you just lack of 1 piece of copy. (In case you really forgot to photocopy, you can go to somewhere nearby of Gombak MRT, there is a shop for photocopy service).

    - when you go to the Information counter, you need to tell them that you are doing the convertion. So at the photo booth they will print out the physical photo for you ($7).

    ***End***

  15. Thank you very much, this post is fantastic and it's a tremendous help! I could add that Johor JPJ office stops issuing queue numbers at 12 PM (on hour before lunch break), so it makes sense to come earlier than that or after 1:40 PM.
